Women's association managing village treasury

Description : Launched by the mayor of Bangourain, this project gives quick and easy access to financial services (savings and production credits) to all the women of Bangourain community.

Primarily targeting key wealth-creating activities in each village, enhancing women's ability to use rural techniques and management of micro-enterprises.



Africaura, the African way: production of a cultural TV series for promoting development in Africa

Description : Africaura TV series document the best of African continent. The project aims to illustrate how the human potential and African values can serve to leverage Africa.

This concept has already resulted in 52 paintings realised by a collective of 10 artists (the collection currently touring in the US), expected to become an episode in the series.



KICORA school radio, remote learning project

Description : KICORA project stands for ‘Kigoma College by Radio’. This remote learning project for adolescents and adults above 14 years old, offering a second chance to those who have dropped out of school.

It is highly relevant and pertinent for Kigoma, a poverty-stricken area with equally poor infrastructure (espacially lacking schools). The project leader strongly believes in education's vital role in development.



Ngor collaborative for sustainable management of the beach commons

Description : The project was launched by the Commission for "Environment, Fisheries and Tourism" of the Ngor municipality, in order to find a solution to considerable waste littering the beach.

The objective is co-management (by the local government, Ngor fishermen assocation and the beach managers) to ensure the security of property and persons on the beach, that of swimmers, and the maintenance of the beach and the environment. Operational costs are covered by the revenues from entry ticket sales.



Handifestival : Cultural festival for the handicapped

Description : Handifestival International aims to facilitate handicapped persons to express their individual talents through different forms of artistic or cultural activities, research and scientific projects.



Recycling plastic litter

Description : Started 10 years ago, the recycling project has three objectives: cleaning the Thiès region from plastic waste and encouraging recycling, create employment for 15 women in a recycling enterprise and generate income for those bringing plastic litter to be recycled and sold to the plastic industry in Dakar.



African cosmetology

Description : A project created by a 4th grade student in pharmacy, whose objective is to create a laboratory for developing cosmetic products from natural plants native to Africa. She has already created two products designed for hair treatment of African women from aloe vera, shea butter and olive oil.



Creation of medicinal gardens maintained by the rural population

Description : The objective of this project is to create a number of medicinal herb gardens in rural areas, to be maintained by the local population. This type of gardens has already been created for growing about 30 distinct species for medical purposes to treat common diseases (malaria, cough, mycosis, constipation...)

Since medicine is expensive and hard to find in Gabon, the project contributes to the local population's medical needs. Local population also gets a chance to learn about the medical properties of plants and how to cultivate them.



Naturopathy Education Center

Description : This project's objective is to restore educational healing centres and provide free trainings on treatment based on natural nutriments. It also aims to create reading rooms on health, author books and brochures on health, and increase the number of medicinal plants.

The "Naturotherapy Education Center" was created in 2004 and is now officially recognised for promoting naturotherapy or treatment of diseases using soft natural remedies discovered through scientific research and preventing diseases through advise and guidance on adopting a healthier way of living.



The Rubaga Youth Development Association (RYDA) promoting and protecting children rights

Description : The NGO RYDA, created in 1992, develops training, education and rehabilitation programs to help youth integrate society, specifically for children who have dropped out of school or whose rights are not respected.



Seeds of hope: creation of a local independent rural press group, composed of a magazine, a radio and a TV channel:

Description : The aim of this project is to inform and to raise awareness about local agriculture in the rural world (motto: "think global, act local").

The projet began in 2007 with the creation of a monthly magazine "Graine d’Espoir" (Seeds of Hope), first published in French, then later in the different languages used in Mali in order to communicate with the rural population directly. The project aims to enlarge the scope of dissemination of local production methods and skills through radio and television.
